New Delhi: The national disaster management team on Sunday said that the suspected radioactive substance leak at the Indira Gandhi International IGI Airport is of low intensity and it is also not dangerous.
The cargo section at Terminal 3 was cordoned off and evacuated since it was said that radioactive substance, flown from France, was leaked.
At least seven fire tender vehicles rushed to the spot and were put on standby to avert any casualty.
"We received a complaint from the airport authorities that Molybdenum-99 (radioactive substance) has leaked from some medical shipment from a cargo brought by an Air France plane," said a senior fire official.
"The element, though not exactly a radioactive element, has some of its properties. We sent seven fire tenders. The situation is under control," the official said.
