Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday has asked the state government to reply why it is not following the Supreme Court’s direction regarding the appointment of Uttar Pradesh DGP by a three-member panel of senior officers.
Court will hear next on August 19 in the matter.
What court said?
• Following the Supreme Court’s directions, state government had on December 2, 2010 issued a notice regarding the working tenure of DGP which should be minimum two years
• Court said but stet government ignored SC’s ruling that a three-member panel comprising of senior officers must be constituted for the appointment of the top cop of UP
• Court was hearing a writ petition filed by social activist Nutan Thakur in which she questioned the appointment of Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmad.
The petition alleged that Mr Ahmad was appointed as DGP superseding 13 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre.
