Draft of Uniform Civil Code ready for Uttarakhand, committee will submit report to Dhami government on February 2

In May 2022, the state government had constituted a five-member committee of the Supreme Court to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand. Apart from Justice Desai, the committee includes retired Delhi High Court judge Pramod Kohli, social activist Manu Gaur, former Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh and Doon University Vice-Chancellor Surekha Dangwal.

Uttarakhand government is going to implement Uniform Civil Code soon. The expert committee formed to implement UCC will submit its draft report to the government on February 2. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that we have made all the preparations.

We will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state by bringing a bill in the upcoming assembly session. Implementing Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand is a priority of the Dhami government. Now rapid steps are being taken in this direction. The committee constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (retired) has prepared the draft report of UCC.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on social media platform Has always been committed to implementing the Civil Code."

The CM further wrote, "The committee formed to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code will submit its report to the state government on February 2. We will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state by bringing a bill in the upcoming assembly session."
