IT raids on Anurag, Taapsee till late night; Search operation may continue today

The Income Tax Department has raided the houses and offices of film directors Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl and actress Taapsee Pannu.

NEW DELHI: Teams of the Income Tax Department (IT Department) have raided the houses and offices of partners including Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu and director Anurag Kashyap on Wednesday. The raids have been carried out under the investigation of tax evasion against Phantom Films.

According to the information, the raids have been carried out at 30 places in Mumbai and Pune. On the other hand, the Income Tax Department has interrogated Tapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap till Wednesday night in this tax evasion case. It is also being said that this raid may continue on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the raid by the Income Tax Department started in the morning and lasted till late in the night. The raiding officers said that documents and computers etc. equipment have been seized from various premises. This raid will continue on Thursday as well. Both Pannu and Kashyap are known to openly express their views on many issues. Both are shooting in Pune and it is believed that they were questioned by the Income Tax authorities as part of the preliminary inquiry during the raid.

Others against which the raids were conducted include some employees of Phantom Films Production House, which was dissolved in 2018. These include its then promoter Kashyap, director-producer Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Vikas Bahl and producer-distributor Madhu Mantena. Sources in the Income Tax Department said that some of the transactions between these institutions were in the eyes of the department and this action was taken to collect evidence to further the investigation of allegations of tax evasion.
