Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is transferring Rs 900 crore directly to the bank accounts of 90,000 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana Urban 2.0. The money is the first installment meant to help families begin construction of their homes. The amount will reach beneficiaries through direct bank transfer, allowing many urban families to finally start building their own houses.
This move is being seen as a big push for housing support in the state. Thousands of people who waited for years to build a home may now finally begin that journey.
Grand Event In Lucknow
The official event is taking place at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. It has been planned as a large ceremony where several senior leaders of the state government will be present alongside the Chief Minister.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma are expected to attend the event as well. The program will begin around 4:30 in the evening.
Around 1,500 beneficiaries from Lucknow and Ayodhya divisions are attending the ceremony physically. Meanwhile thousands of other beneficiaries from different districts will watch and join the event through video conferencing.
The government wants this moment to feel special for families who are finally getting support to build their homes.
Money Sent Directly To Bank Accounts
The financial support is being transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer, commonly called DBT. This method allows the government to send money straight into the bank accounts of beneficiaries without middlemen.
Because of this system the chances of corruption or delay become much lower. The beneficiaries can immediately use the first installment to begin the foundation and early construction of their houses.
Officials say this first installment is extremely important. For many families it becomes the starting point of their dream home, something they may have been waiting for years.
Direct bank transfer has slowly become the preferred method for welfare schemes in India because it ensures transparency.
Symbolic Certificates To Be Given
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister will also give housing approval certificates to around twenty beneficiaries. This will be done symbolically during the event.
Along with this, the Chief Minister will interact virtually with beneficiaries from several districts. People from places like Fatehpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Maharajganj and Deoria will share their experiences.
These conversations are expected to highlight how the housing scheme is changing lives. Many families who struggled with temporary shelters or rented homes are now getting a chance to build something permanent.
For them, even the first step towards a home brings emotional relief.
UP Among Top States In Housing Support
According to official figures, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading states in providing houses under the scheme. Since 2014, more than 21.35 lakh houses have been approved in the state under the urban housing program.
To support this massive goal, the government has already released over Rs 44,471 crore directly to beneficiaries. The numbers show how large the housing push has become over the last several years.
If both rural and urban housing schemes are counted together, the state has already helped more than 62 lakh families receive homes. These include houses built under PM Awas Yojana, Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana and housing built on land freed from illegal occupation.
For many poor families, having their own house means stability and dignity.
PM Awas Yojana 2.0 Brings New Hope
The second phase of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana Urban is aimed especially at economically weaker families living in cities. Many such families struggle with rising rents or unstable housing conditions.
The new phase tries to reduce that problem by providing financial support for home construction. The installment released today will help thousands of families start building their houses.
Officials say the goal is simple but powerful. No family should remain without a roof over their head.
For beneficiaries receiving the first installment today, it feels like the beginning of something long awaited. The money may not build the whole house at once, but it starts the foundation. And sometimes that first step is what people were waiting for the most.
