Supreme Court orders permanent commission to women officers

The Supreme Court of India ordered one of the biggest permit. Supreme Court today said the women will be equal to the men in every manner. In order Supreme Court said the Indian Army to grant permanent commission to women within three months, rejecting the stereotypes that only women are responsible for domestic duties.

Supreme Court also said centre should change their mind. They underlined the quality status. In this order supreme court also said that men should also take equal responsibilities as women. Lady officers are bounded in any way, male officers should also take domestic responsbility.

In previous orders women were not allowed to work after 14 years of tenure. Only men have those rights to continue after this period. But Supreme Court ordered, “SSC women officers less than 14 as well as beyond 14 years of service will be granted permanent commission,”.

“Time has come for a realisation that women are not adjuncts to male counterparts whose presence has to be just tolerated,” the court said.

The Supreme Court further added, "To cast aspersions on women based on gender is in fact an affront to the entire army where men and women are equal. To deny grant of permanent commission on these stereotypes represent deeply entrenched biases. True equality in army must be brought."

Lawyer Meenakshi Lekhi, who represented the women officers in the Delhi High Court, was seen in a photo shaking hands and congratulating them. The officers, all of them smiling in their crisp uniforms, gesture to one another to strike a pose for the camera.

The top court said despite there being no stay on a 2010 Delhi High Court verdict allowing grant of permanent commission to women officers, the Centre has over past one decade shown scant regard in implementing the directive.

It said engagement of women officers in the Army has been an evolutionary process and the Union of India should have acted in accordance with the Delhi High Court judgment when there was no stay on it.

PM Modi also announced in 2018 Independence Day speech that women of Indian Army can take permanent comission. After this, the matter came in light.
