New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated Dharma Chakra Diwas at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. After this, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the Dharma Chakra Diwas celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the countrymen through video.

IBC celebrates Ashada Purnima:

On Saturday, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) will celebrate Ashada Purnima as Dharma Chakra Day. The event has been organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. Mahatma Buddha gave the first sermon to the five disciples before the day of his death.

Buddhists all over the world celebrate it every year as Dharma Chakra Pravartan Divas. At the same time, in Hinduism this day is a day to pay respect to Gurus and it is also celebrated as ‘Guru Purnima’.

The Prime Minister Modi continued saying, the occasion highlights the importance of "compassion and kindness". The teachings of Lord Buddha "celebrate simplicity both in thought and action", he added.

Honorable President of India will receive a valuable Buddhist manuscript of Indian origin preserved in Mongolia for centuries.
