New Delhi: A United Nations (UN) arbitration court has ruled that India should release Italian marine, who had been detained in Delhi for more than four years.

The court also allowed him to return home, said Italian Foreign Ministry on Monday. The Italian marines were arrested in 2012 for shooting two fishermen that they had mistaken for pirates while they had been escorting an oil tanker.

The Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that in an initial ruling, the court had decided that Girone should be allowed home.
