New Delhi: This year saw numerous launches in Indian automotive industry, ranging from entry-level hatchbacks to luxury sedans and more. The SUVs, however, ruled the charts which is evident by the launching number of this segment.

Although, the industry witnessed a wide sales downturn, despite severe steps taken by leaders to cut costs, the overall trend in the Indian auto sector remained positive. Vehicles like MG Hector, Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, and then Elantra highlighted features like connectivity provisions and become one of the favorites of 2019.

New Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR was launched in January and was launched with all new style and features. The vehicle not only grew in size but also came with a more powerful engine. The hatchback is available with a 1.0-litre engine which puts out 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. There's also a 1.2-litre unit on offer which makes 82 bhp and 113 Nm.

The new WagonR has become very popular vehicle and the company has sold over 1.45 lakh units of this hatchback this year.

Hyundai Venue

Launched in May 2019, Hyundai Venue was South Korean car maker's first attempt at a sub-compact SUV, which really worked well for them. The SUV, on account of its contemporary design and extensive feature list has become one of the best selling vehicle in its segment. It comes with a choice between three engine options-- a 1.0-litre turbocharged GDI petrol, a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol, and a 1.4-litre diesel.

-The 1.0-litre engine puts out 118 bhp, 172 Nm, and comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

-The 1.2-litre petrol engine generates 82 bhp, 115 Nm of torque, and is available with a five-speed manual transmission.

-The 1.4-litre diesel unit, on the other hand, is paired to a five-speed manual transmission with 89 bhp and 220 Nm on tap.

Hyundai had received over 75,000 orders for Venue in October and has dispatched over 60,000 units of the Venue till now.

MG Hector

MG Hector, launched in July this year, opened gates for British car maker's entry in India. The SUV looks quite stylish with modern styling reflected by the split headlamp setup and is touted to be India's first internet car.

Hector comes equipped with an i-Smart connectivity suite which includes a 10.4-inch infotainment system and enables provisions like geo-fencing, and emergency response among others. The system also comes with an artificial intelligence-based voice assist feature that operates sunroof, adjusts AC, etc.

This MG SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel unit. The petrol motor, available in combination with a six-speed manual or an optional DCT, delivers 141 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.

The diesel engine, on the other hand, puts out 168 bhp and 350 Nm and is offered with only a manual transmission. MG has sold over 12,900 units of Hector since July.

Kia Seltos

South Korea entered Indian automotive industry by its milestone product, Kia Seltos that was launched in August. The SUV has now become the leader in the compact SUV segment. With its unique looks and a plethora of features like 10.25-inch infotainment system, fully digital instrument panel, head-up display, UVO connectivity suit, air purifier, Seltos has made a place for itself in the market.

This SUV is available with three engine options -- 1.4-litre petrol, 1.5-litre petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. All these three engines are BS 6-compliant and are offered in combination with manual as well as automatic transmission.

Kia Seltos price: 9.69 lakh onward

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Launched in September this year, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is an entry-level hatchback. It has been designed as a micro SUV and is powered by a BS 6-compliant 1.0-litre engine which delivers 67 bhp and 90 Nm of torque.

This engine is offered with a choice between a five-speed manual gearbox and a five-speed AMT transmission. It comes with a seven-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, etc. It is also equipped with the segment-first steering mounted audio and telephony controls, which make S-Presso a very popular vehicle in its segment.
