Sailor Neha Thakur wins silver, squash teams win opening matches

India beat Singapore 16-1 in men's hockey, but the 10m air rifle mixed team lost the bronze medal match.

Indian sailor Neha Thakur brought laurels to the country by winning silver medal with a net score of 27 in the girl's dinghy - ILCA4 event to finish second.

17-year-old Neha Thakur won one and finished second in two of her 11 races in the event at Hangzhou. It is India's first sailing medal this edition and a fourth silver overall in the 19th Asian Games.

India beat Singapore 16-1 in men's hockey, but the 10m air rifle mixed team lost the bronze medal match.

Indian player Ayan Biswas won his round of 32 Street Fighter V: Champion Edition match 2-0 against Nguyen Khanh Hung Chau of Vietnam to progress to the winners' bracket. However, he went down 2-1 in round 1 Saudi Arabia's Abdulrahman Salem Alrayfal to drop into the losers' bracket.

The Indian cycling team clocked 4:16.085 to rank seventh in the men's team pursuit qualifying at the Asian Games 2023. They averaged 56.231 km/h during the round while finishing 17.501 seconds behind the Japanese team, who qualified first.

Indian Judoka Tulika Maan lost the women's +78kg quarter-final against Japan's Wakaba Tomita at Hangzhou. However, a victory by ippon in the repechage round against Chinese Taipei's Tsai Jia Wen helped her advance to the bronze medal match.

The 25-year-old Tulika Maan will contest for bronze today at the Asian Games 2023.

Meanwhile, Avtar Singh got injured during his men's -100kg round of 16 success and did not take the mat in the quarter-final and repechage matches. Judoka Indubala Devi Maibam lost her women's -78kg round of 16 bouts earlier in the day.

The Indian men's squash team, led by seven-time Asian Games medallist Saurav Ghosal, won 3-0 against Singapore in their opening group match at Hangzhou 2023. Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu and Abhay Singh, teamed up with Saurav Ghosal, won all nine games of the tie.
