At Bageshwar Dham, Maha Shivratri is not merely a religious festival, but manifests as an extraordinary confluence of faith, spiritual energy, cultural celebration, and social service. Here, the observance of Shivratri does not remain confined to worship and ritual offerings alone. Rather, it has developed into a grand week-long festival, where lakhs of devotees from India and abroad arrive to receive spiritual benefit, listen to sacred discourse, participate in yajna-rituals, and join in works of service. This festival stands as a symbol of that living tradition of Bageshwar Dham in which devotion is inseparably joined with responsibility toward society.

Every year, on the sacred occasion of Maha Shivratri, religious rituals are organized at Bageshwar Dham for nearly a week, in which lakhs of devotees from India and abroad take part. In the year 2022, on the occasion of Shivratri, a Ramkatha was organized at Bageshwar Dham by Jagadguru Swami Shri Rambhadracharya Ji Maharaj.

In the year 2023, from 13 February to 19 February, various spiritual programs such as Maa Annapurna Mahayajna, Ramlila, Shri Hanumant Katha, and Bhajan Sandhya were organized at Bageshwar Dham, in which a huge number of devotees participated.

Similarly, in the year 2024, the Shivratri Festival was celebrated from 1 March to 8 March. During this, from 1 March to 7 March, a Shrimad Bhagwat Katha was delivered by Param Pujya Shri Indresh Upadhyay Ji of Vrindavan, and a 108-kund Ati-Vishnu Mahayajna was performed in memory of India’s immortal martyrs under the guidance of Shri Balak Yogeshwar Das Ji of Badrinath.

Maha Shivratri and the Mass Marriage of Daughters

A deeply important and sensitive aspect of the Maha Shivratri Festival at Bageshwar Dham is the mass marriage of daughters, which makes it not just a religious celebration, but also a centre of social responsibility.

At the mass marriage ceremony held in the year 2023, many distinguished personalities were present, including Malukpeethadhishwar Shri Rajendra Das Ji Maharaj, Raj Rajeshwar Ji Maharaj who had come from Britain, Kishor Das Ji Maharaj, Aniruddhacharya Ji Maharaj, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP state president and Khajuraho MP B.D. Sharma, Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah, and British representative Simon Owens.

In the year 2024, this event was conducted on an even wider scale. The presence of many prominent figures such as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, actor Govind Namdev, singer Sonu Nigam, The Great Khali, Dalip Singh Rana, and Manoj Tiwari made it even more grand.

For the Maha Shivratri Festival of the year 2025, it has been proposed that from 22 February to 26 February, a Katha and Hanumant Mahayajna will be organized by Pujya Didi Maa Ritambhara Ji under the guidance of Shri Bal Yogeshwar Das Ji Maharaj of Badrinath.

Kanya Vivah: A Tradition of Service and Sensitivity

Pujya Gurudev always says in his discourses, “Those who have no one, have Bageshwar Balaji.” Giving living form to this very sentiment, every year at Bageshwar Dham the marriages of poor and helpless daughters are solemnized with full ritual dignity.

Along with the wedding, the daughters are also provided with all the essential materials required for married life as gifts, so that they may begin their lives with dignity and respect.

This service began in the year 2019. In 2019, 17 daughters were married. In 2020, the event could not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, 21 daughters were married. In 2022, 108 daughters were married. In 2023, instead of the proposed 121, a total of 125 daughters were married. In 2024, instead of the proposed 151, a total of 156 daughters were married.

In the year 2024, each daughter was given, as gifts, a motorcycle, washing machine, LED television, refrigerator, cooler, almirah, sofa set, double bed, and the complete set of household essentials.

For the year 2025, a target has been set for the marriage of 251 daughters, of whom 108 will be from tribal families and 143 from other communities.

The Idea of Kanya Vivah: From Struggle to Resolve

This tradition of Kanya Vivah is not merely a social program, but the result of a life-vision born out of Acharyashri’s personal struggle and sensitivity.

There was once a time when he did not even have the means to arrange his own sister’s wedding. The economic condition of the household was so difficult that he had to go from door to door in search of help for the marriage arrangements, but no assistance came from anywhere.

At last, a friend stood by him and said, “Your sister is my sister,” and extended financial help while participating in all the arrangements of the wedding.

It was this very incident that created within Acharyashri a firm resolve— “The pain that I have endured, no other brother or father should have to suffer in the same way.”

Today, that very resolve has become the cause of happiness and dignity in the lives of thousands of daughters.

Present and Future Plans

Various religious and cultural programs are organized throughout the year at Bageshwar Dham, such as Holi Milan, the Guru Purnima Festival, and the birth celebration of Pujya Gurudev.

In the year 2025, at the sixth mass marriage ceremony, the marriage of 251 daughters has been proposed. Pujya Gurudev’s long-term resolve is that in the future, on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, 1100 daughters should be married in a single day.

With this objective in mind, there is also a plan to build a grand marriage house at the Dham, so that throughout the year the marriages of needy daughters may be organized and they may be provided the necessary support.
