'Blowing in the wind' lyricist bags Nobel Prize for literature
American song-writer and singer Bob Dylan has been awarded 2016 Nobel Prize in literature for creating the poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.
Washington: American song-writer and singer Bob Dylan has been awarded 2016 Nobel Prize in literature for creating the poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.
Sara Danius, Swedish Academy's permanent secretary said," Dylan is a great poet in the English-speaking tradition."
"Dylan's music and lyrics helped in motivating people of 1960s in Civil Rights Movements. He continues to influence the rock, pop and folk music today,"she said.
- Bob Dylan was born in 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota.
- He released his first album named Bob Dylan in 1962.
- He also bagged 10 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
- In 2012, he was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President Barack Obama.
- Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest Civilian honour.
- Dylan became the 108th winner of the most prestigious literature award in the world.
