The committee headed by Health and Family Welfare Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav has made new recommendations to the Central Government in the schemes running under the Ayushman Yojana so that more and more people can get the benefit of this health scheme.

Under this, the age limit for free treatment should be 60 years. Also, the amount of Rs 5 lakh given for treatment should also be doubled to Rs 10 lakh. Currently, only 70-year-olds are getting the benefit.

The Central government on September 11 last year expanded the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) to cover 6 crore senior citizens of 70 years and above from 4.5 crore families under the AB-PMJAY Vaya Vandana Yojana.

Right now more than 34 crore people have Ayushman card through which they can take the benefits. Under this scheme, 30,174 hospitals are directly connected to this scheme.

The Centre had launched the scheme in 2017

Ayushman Bharat is the world's largest insurance scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year to the poorest 40 percent of the country's people.

The central government launched this scheme in the year 2017 under the National Health Policy. However, many states including West Bengal are refusing to accept this scheme and are running their own scheme in the state.

Under this scheme, treatment can be done in selected government and private hospitals across the country. There is also a provision to pay the expenses of 10 days before and after admission under this scheme.

All diseases are covered in this scheme

Chronic diseases are also covered in Ayushman Yojana. Expenses before and after hospitalization for any disease are covered in it. Expenses incurred on transport are covered in it. All medical tests, operations, treatments etc. are included in it. So far, more than 5.5 crore people have got themselves treated under this scheme.
