Four drown after boat capsizes in Jammu and Kashmir's Jhelum river

Officials said a boat carrying seven people capsized in the Jhelum river in Gandabal in the district. Officials said, "SDRF, police and people immediately launched a rescue operation. Four people died in the accident, while three have been sent to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment."

Four people died and three others were injured when a boat capsized in Jhelum river in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar district on Tuesday.

Due to heavy rains in the area in the last few days, the water level of Jhelum river has increased.

Officials said a boat carrying seven people capsized in the Jhelum river in Gandabal in the district. Officials said, "SDRF, police and people immediately launched a rescue operation. Four people died in the accident, while three have been sent to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment."

"The bodies of the victims have been recovered and medico-legal formalities are being completed," officials said. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that the injured persons were being treated at the hospital.

The water level of Jhelum river is very high due to heavy rains, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed after landslides caused by rains on Monday. Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said, "NH-44 has been blocked due to a massive landslide in Kishtwari Pather. People are advised to avoid traveling in this area."

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the main road connecting the valley with the rest of the country.
