A 22-year-old man in Lakhimpur Kheri was arrested and sent to jail for confining and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl over three days. The survivor, who had refused to marry him, was abused and beaten. The accused even went as far as branding her face with the letters of his name, 'Aman,' using a hot iron rod, according to the police.

Police initially registered a case under 'lesser' sections such as wrongful confinement and voluntarily causing hurt, as alleged by her family. After the victim's statement before a magistrate under Sec 164 CrPC, sections of rape along with the Pocso Act were also added to the FIR.

According to a statement of SSP (Kheri) Ganesh Saha, an FIR was registered on the basis of the victim's statement and the family's statement. "But later she changed her statement in court and now we are probing in this matter".

SHO (Dhaurahra), Dinesh Singh, said "The man is a school dropout and works at a salon in Hyderabad. He wanted to marry the girl and when she refused, he wrote his name on both her cheeks. We registered an FIR when she came to

the police station with her family. Since she didn't carry an ID, we were not sure whether she was a minor. We have now added IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapon) and 376 (rape) along with Pocso Act."
