Washington/Moscow: The responsibility of killing Islamic States (IS) spokesman Abu Mohamed al-Adnani is being claimed by two countries – Russia and United States – at the same time.

It may be mentioned that Adnani, who was the terror outfit’s propaganda chief, was killed in Syria’s Aleppo province on Wednesday last.

US Defence Department’s headquarters The Pentagon said Adnani was targeted by them in an airstrike but his death could not be confirmed immediately while the military of Russia claimed that the terrorist was slain in a bombing raid launched by them.

According to analysts, Adnani’s demise will definitely lead to ISIS’s downfall regardless of who killed him. Moreover, the extremist group has been suffering a series of setbacks, including territorial losses and killing of its top figures, for the last one year.

About al-Adnani:

  • He was a senior IS strategist and overseer of external terrorist operations.
  • He was a 39-year old Syrian national.
  • He was also the Chief Propagandist of the terror group.
