UN resolution for immediate ceasefire in Gaza rejected following US veto

In the resolution presented by the UN, there was a demand for immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unconditional release of all hostages. 13 member countries voted in favor of this resolution but America vetoed it. In fact, after the attacks on Israel on October 7, the Jewish country has continued its attacks in Gaza, vowing to eradicate Hamas. America is fully supporting Israel.

Two months have passed since the Israel-Gaza war, but till now no possibility is seen of a ceasefire.

According to reports, 300 people have been killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours in Israeli attacks. Meanwhile, there are continuous calls for ceasefire.

America stopped a similar UN effort for ceasefire on Friday. The UN ceasefire proposal could not be passed because of America. America vetoed the proposal.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres used Article 99 of the UN Charter to call an emergency Security Council meeting for an immediate ceasefire. Let us tell you that Article 99 is used very rarely. He appealed for the release of the hostages, saying that "the brutality committed by Hamas can never justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people." Meanwhile, America, which helps Israel, vetoed the UN resolution.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry, the fighting has so far killed 17,487 people in the Palestinian territories, mostly women and children. According to Israeli figures, Hamas attacked Israel and killed 1,200 people, while taking more than 200 hostage. Israel has turned a vast area of Gaza into a barren land. The United Nations says that about 80 percent of the population has been displaced, and people are facing great problems for food, water, medicine and fuel.

"People are starting to cut down telephone poles to get heat or maybe to get some firewood for cooking," said WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier. Meanwhile, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said the Security Council was "complicit in the ongoing genocide."

The Israeli military, showing footage of navy ship attacks in the Mediterranean Sea, said it had attacked 450 targets in Gaza in 24 hours. Meanwhile, Hamas' health ministry reported the deaths of 40 people near Gaza City in the north and dozens of deaths in Jabaliya and the main southern city of Khan Yunis.
