Taiwan's Labor Minister Su Mingchun has come on the backfoot after strongly condemning her racist remarks on Indians. He has apologized for his statement on Tuesday. In fact, in an interview, Taiwan's Labor Minister had said that the ministry would pay more attention to the recruitment of migrant laborers from North-East India, because 'their skin color and eating habits are similar to ours.'

According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, he further said that 'According to the assessment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the people of this region, mostly Christians, are skilled in manufacturing, construction and farming.'

After criticism of Labor Minister Su Mingchun's remarks, the Labor Ministry distanced itself from him. The ministry said in a statement that all workers will be treated fairly and equally. Let us tell you that this controversy has arisen at a time when the first batch of Indian laborers from the North-East will enter Taiwan in the next six to 12 months. After this, by expanding the plan, gradually workers will be recruited from other Indian states also.

In a legislative hearing, the minister expressed regret over his controversial statement and apologized. He made it clear that Taiwan's labor policy aims for equality without discrimination, whether for local or foreign workers.

It is worth noting that Chen Kuan-ting, a legislator from the Democratic Progressive Party, a regional party in Nagaland, has strongly criticized Minister Su Mingchun by posting a video on Instagram. He argued that skin color and race should not be the criteria for the recruitment of migrant workers.
