Today is "Super Tuesday" and results for 15 states and Samoa will be announced.
"Super Tuesday" is one of the busiest days in the US election calendar. Since the race for the US presidency is short, this is very important for the selection of candidates.
On "Super Tuesday", Republicans will hold nominating contests in 15 states and Democrats in 15 states and one territory.
On March 5, competitions will be held from Maine in the Northeast to California on the West Coast, as well as in the Pacific region of American Samoa.
Primaries or caucuses are also to be held in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. Alaska's vote will cover only the Republican primary, with the state's Democrats voting on April 6.
It is believed that 'Super Tuesday' will be the last chance for Indian-American Nikki Haley to stop Donald Trump's campaign to get the Republican nomination for the presidential elections.
In the Republican contest, 865 of the 2,429 delegates will be in the fray. About 1,215 delegates are needed to win the nomination at the Republican National Convention in July.
On the Democratic front, US President Joe Biden is expected to be re-nominated for this post by his party. About one-third of the Democratic delegates will be decided on March 5.
Republicans held their own contests in Iowa earlier this year. On Tuesday, Democrats will declare the winner of their mail-in vote in that state.
According to the Trump campaign's projections, he will win about 773 delegates and cross the magic number needed to secure the nomination.
Ahead of Super Tuesday, the US Supreme Court gave Donald Trump a major victory. The court blocked states from disqualifying candidates for federal office under a constitutional provision related to insurrection and overturned Colorado's exclusion of Trump from the ballot.
