The wreck of the SS Pacific ship, which sank 150 years ago along with its treasure, will be brought to the sea surface for the first time.

The value of the treasure loaded on the ship has been estimated to be around 80 lakh dollars (about Rs 66.32 crore). The ship disappeared in the waves in 1875 while on route from British Columbia to the US state of San Francisco.

The ship was loaded with gold and other valuable things. Jeff Hammel, the expert who discovered the remains of the SS Pacific, reportedly acquired the rights to the wreck with the Rockfish Expedition Committee in 2002.

A Seattle court gave them the right to claim the wreck but also said that if someone could prove family ties to the owner of the treasure, he too could claim it. Ethan Benson, general manager of Rockfish, said that last year we talked with Original Cargo. We settled seven weeks ago to cover the insured portion of the cargo.

The Rockfish Campaign Committee says there is currently one contender. We don't think he has any legitimate claim but we are in talks with him. There are varying estimates as to the amount of gold that sank with the ship. Other accessories include jewelery made from other metals. This year, the work of removing ship debris using underwater vehicles will begin.

The 300 people aboard the ship included some wealthy men and gold miners from the Pacific Northwest. Everyone had died due to drowning. No human remains were found at the wreck site. Searchers believe that it is difficult to find human remains after so many years in the depth of water and strong currents.
