Washington: United States (US) President Barack Obama on Sunday joined the nation in remembering the people who died in 9/11 attacks 15 years ago.

“The President has observed the sombre anniversary with a moment of silence at the Oval Office,” said a White House statement.

Later, the President laid a large wreath at a memorial service’s beginning at the Pentagon, the headquarters of US Defence Department.

It may be recalled that at least 3000 people were killed in four interrelated terror attacks by Al-Qaida in New York City, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon on September 9, 2001.

The Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden was killed by the US forces during a raid at the terrorist’s Pakistani hideout in May 2011, nearly a decade after the gruesome attacks.
