PM Modi talks to WHO Chief, Tedros thanks India for covid vaccine initiative

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Director General of the World Health Organization TA Gebreyes on Wednesday discussed the ongoing partnership to tackle the covid-19 pandemic and agreed to incorporate traditional medicine with modern medical practice in this direction.

According to the statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Modi spoke to the head of the World Health Organization over the phone and praised the organization's important role in coordinating the global partnership to tackle the pandemic.

During the conversation, Modi also emphasized that the fight against other diseases should not be distracted. He also praised the importance of the organization's support to the health system in developing countries.

Campaign for awareness of Tuberculosis:

The Prime Minister's Office said the WHO chief emphasized close and regular partnership between the organization and the Indian Health Authority and praised domestic initiatives such as the campaign against Ayushman Bharat and Tuberculosis (TB).

He said that India has an important role to play in relation to global health. The statement said that there was a positive discussion between the Prime Minister and the WHO chief about the traditional medicine system, especially in the context of improving the health of people around the world and enhancing their immunity.

During the talks, the Prime Minister told the head of the organization that Ayurveda Day is to be celebrated in the country on 13 November on the basis of 'Ayurveda for Covid-19' theme. In a later tweet, the head of the World Health Organization thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for various things and efforts.

WHO chief TA Gebreyes said, 'Thank you to Prime Minister Modi for a positive dialogue to strengthen our cooperation and advance access to knowledge, research and training in traditional medicine globally. WHO welcomes India's leading role in global health and universal health coverage.
