Nobel Prize 2023: Three get Nobel Prize for Chemistry

The Nobel Prize for 2023 in the field of Chemistry has been announced. This year this honor was jointly given to Maungi G from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bawendi, Lewis E. Bruce of Columbia University, and Alexey I. Ekimov, who works in nanocrystal technology. The award has been given for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced this on Wednesday.

Earlier, the names of the winners of this honor for the field of Physiology or Medicine were announced. This year, Catalin Carico and Drew Weissman were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. He was given this honor for his discoveries related to nucleoside base modifications. This discovery helped in the development of effective mRNA vaccines against coronavirus i.e. COVID-19.

The Nobel Prize for Physics was jointly awarded to Pierre Augustini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L'Hullier. This honor was given for studies on electrons. The award was given for experimental methods in which attosecond pulses of light were generated to study the mobility of electrons in matter.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2022 had been awarded to Caroline Bertozzi of Stanford University, America, Morten Mieldahl of the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and K. of Scripps Research Center, America. It was given to Barry Sharpless. The award was given for the development of click chemistry and biorthogonal chemistry.

The announcement of Nobel Prizes started from Monday with the Nobel Prize in Medicine. The Nobel Prize for Medicine was announced on October 2 and the Nobel Prize for Physics was announced on October 3. The Chemistry Award was announced on October 4. Now today i.e. Thursday, the name of the Nobel Prize winner in the field of literature were announced. Apart from this, the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday and the winner of this award in the field of economics will be announced on October 9.

The awards carry a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor, or one million US dollars or one million dollars. The funds come from a bequest left by the award's founder and Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. He died in 1896.
