Nigeria: Over 100 killed as aircraft mistakenly bombs refugee camp

Maidugiri: More than 100 refugees died while several others injured when a Nigeria Air Force fighter jet mistakenly bombed a refugee camp in northeastern state of Borno, near the border of Cameroon.

The aircraft was on a mission against Boko Haram extremists, said army sources. The injured have been sent to the nearby hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area.

“I am yet to get the numbers of causalities of civilians which were killed,” said Nigerian army commander.

“Our medical and surgical teams in Cameroon and Chad are ready to treat wounded patients. We are in close contact with our teams, who are in shock following the event,” said authorities.
