Many people injured after stabbing incident in Melbourne

Melbourne: Several people were injured in Melbourne on Friday after multiple stabbing 'incident'.

According to Victoria police, the incident took place at Bourke Street. The police initially responded to a report of a car on fire near the corner of Swanston Street about 1620 hours.

"Police shot the accused in a chest and he is now in critical condition under guard in hospital," Victorian police superintendent David Clayton said.

Clayton added, "There's no known link to terrorism at this stage. We'll keep an open mind as to whether there's any link."

A man was arrested at the scene and has been taken to hospital under police guard in a critical condition.
