Amid the ongoing dispute between India and Maldives, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu has been accused of allegedly causing death of a teen as he denied use of an Indian air ambulance for his treatment.

According to the media reports President Mohammad Muizzu refused allow use of the Dornier aircraft given by India for the airlift.

According to the information, the minor boy had a brain tumor. Suddenly he suffered a stroke. Due to this his condition became serious. The boy's family asked the President of Maldives for an air ambulance to take him from his home in Gaff Alif Villingili to the capital city Male as his condition worsened. Officials had applied to arrange immediate medical evacuation but President Mohammad Muizzu refused to grant him permission to use Dornier aircraft provided by India for the airlift. This resulted in the death of a teenager in Maldives on Saturday.

The father of the deceased teenager said that he had called Island Aviation to take his son to Male immediately after the stroke. None of our calls were responded to by them. After this he answered the phone at 8:30 am on Thursday.

The boy was brought to Male 16 hours after seeking emergency evacuation. Meanwhile, an official of Aasandha Company Limited, which received the emergency evacuation request, said that they had started the evacuation process immediately after the request. Unfortunately, the diversion could not take place at the last moment due to a technical problem in the flight.

Commenting on the death of the teenager, Maldives MP Mikael Naseem said that people should not have to pay the price by giving their lives to satisfy the President's hostility towards India. The incident has come at a time when Maldivian ministers made derogatory comments towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After this, diplomatic relations between the two have deteriorated recently.
