Despite many researches about the functioning of the human body, some complex aspects still remain a mystery.

One such puzzle came to light in Missouri, America. What the doctors found there after scanning the stomach of a 63-year old man was surprising.

The elderly man is suffering from colon cancer. He had reached the hospital for routine checkup. During examination, doctors found a live buzzing fly in his intestine. He did not understand how the fly reached inside the stomach.

According to the American Journal of Gastroenterology, doctors treating the elderly man described it as a case related to a rare colonoscopic finding, in which a live fly traveled to the last part of the digestive tract. She was flying intermittently. It was feared that people might unknowingly consume the eggs or larvae of flies present in fruits or vegetables. They also survive in stomach acid and start growing in the intestines.

The elderly patient told doctors that he did not know how the live fly reached his stomach. Before coming to the hospital he had consumed only clean beverages.

Matthew Bechtold, head of gastroenterology at the University of Missouri, says that the fly may have entered the body through the mouth of the elderly person. The digestive enzymes and stomach acid should have killed the fly, but it did not. Bechtold advised that fruits and vegetables should be kept away from flies. They should be washed thoroughly before eating.
