Washington: Lashing out at the Syrian government, United Nations (UN) Chief Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday said most of those killed in five years of the continued civil war in the country were civilians.

“It is the high time when the government of Syria should realise that it has been killing innocent civilians in the last five years of civil war in the country. Moreover, the opposing sides of the conflict have blood on their hands,” said Ban while speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Ban’s statement came after the UN suspended all aid convoys in Syria in the wake of deadly airstrikes on its trucks near Aleppo.

It may be recalled that Russian or Syrian warplanes on Monday bombed two aid convoys after a routine delivery of supplies near the city of Aleppo. At least ten persons were reportedly killed in the attack.
