The official investigation into allegations of foreign interference in Canadian elections has revealed that India has not tried to interfere in Canadian politics. The investigation has found that a panel of senior Canadian officials monitoring the 2021 elections in Canada was not informed about any attempts by India to influence the national elections.

However, according to testimony in the official investigation, the Canadian intelligence agency has found that China had interfered in the last two elections held in Canada.

A few days ago, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had reportedly accused India and Pakistan of interfering in the elections held in Canada in 2019 and 2021. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party had won both the 2019 and 2021 elections. In fact, under pressure from opposition MLAs unhappy with media reports on China's possible role, Trudeau had formed a commission to investigate foreign interference.

Trudeau will appear before the panel today in the case. India had earlier denied the claims and assured its commitment not to interfere in the democratic processes of other countries.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in February, "We have seen media reports about the Canadian Commission of Inquiry... We strongly reject all such baseless allegations of Indian interference in Canadian elections."

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in February, "We have seen media reports about the Canadian Commission of Inquiry... We strongly reject all such baseless allegations of Indian interference in Canadian elections." He had said, "It is not the policy of the Indian government to interfere in the democratic processes of other countries. Rather, the opposite is happening. It is Canada that is trying to interfere in our internal affairs."

Canada's investigation into foreign interference has further strained already strained relations between the two countries.
