Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case has turned out to be a major obstacle in the Canada-India relations and the former has also expelled a top Indian diplomat.

But who is Hardeep Singh Nijjar and how he became an important topic between India-Canada.

More than 10 FIRs have also been registered against Nijjar in connection with alleged terrorist activities.

Nijjar, a resident of Bhar Singh Pura village, Jalandhar, went to Canada in 1996 and started working there as a plumber.

Nijjar, however, later came into contact with pro-Khalistani activists and joined hands with them. Nijjar, who was working with the extremist organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), had taken the second position after Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

In the later years, he became a prominent face as a leader of Canada's Sikh community. After this, he was elected unopposed as the head of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia. Since then, he became famous as a big Sikh leader in Canada. According to some media reports, he was behind some anti-Indian activities in Canada over the instructions of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. He had also planned to attack several Hindu temples in Canada.

The involvement of Nijjar in terrorism began with his membership in the Babbar Khalsa International led by Jagtar Singh Tara. Subsequently, he founded his own organisation, the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF).

He played an important role in identifying Khalistanis in India. For this, he added people, trained them and also helped in funding to them.

Nijjar was also accused of murdering a spiritual person Baba Bhanjara in 2014. In 2015, he organised a training camp in Canada to instruct Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, who was later sent to Punjab with a mission to target Shiv Sena leaders. But Mandeep was arrested in June 2016.

Khalistan Commando Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar had visited Pakistan in 2013-14 where he met Jagtar Singh Tara, a Khalistani terrorist who was hiding in Pakistan. Tara was also arrested in Thailand in 2015.
