Epic Games, the maker of the online game Fortnite, has won the case against Google in a court in the United States of America.

This case is related to monopoly. The court said that Google illegally monopolizes the app market through its Android App Store, also known as Google Play Store. The court held that Google wrongly retained ownership of the Play Store to maintain its monopoly.

The court jury found that Google harmed Epic Games and illegally imposed its billing system on developers. Epic Games had filed a lawsuit against Google and Apple in 2020 alleging that both these companies use their monopoly in the market to unfairly sell their apps to mobile phone manufacturers.

Due to the legal defeat suffered by Google, it is now being estimated that the dominance of big companies like Google in the app market is likely to end. Due to the defeat of Google, now the monopoly of Apple's App Store is also in danger of ending. Google earns about 200 billion dollars from its apps.

It also determines how billions of consumers use mobile devices. The decision given by the court is a blow to the business model of Google and Apple's App Store, because these companies charge up to 30% commission from software developers, while the developers also have some other options.
