In the unfolding diplomatic saga between India and Maldives, the repercussions of India's boycott call have taken center stage, causing distress in the Maldivian tourism sector. Former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed, currently in India, addressed the media to shed light on the situation, expressing regret and extending apologies on behalf of the Maldivian people.

The diplomatic row has significantly affected Maldives' tourism, prompting Nasheed to acknowledge the adverse impact during his media interaction. He emphasized the importance of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives and reassured that the country's renowned hospitality remains unchanged despite the ongoing tensions.

"I'm very worried about this. It has impacted the Maldives a lot, and I want to say the people of the Maldives are sorry. We want Indian people to come on their holidays to the Maldives, and there will not be any change in our hospitality," Nasheed conveyed, as reported by news agency ANI.

Nasheed's visit to India included a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he received well-wishes and expressed his admiration for PM Modi. Nasheed also lauded the swift actions taken by the current Maldivian President in addressing the situation, highlighting the need to resolve matters and return to a normal diplomatic relationship.

Reflecting on historical ties, Nasheed acknowledged India's responsible approach during past challenges, citing an instance where India opted for diplomatic discussions rather than forceful actions. This historical context adds depth to the current scenario, emphasizing the significance of open dialogue and collaboration in resolving international disputes.

Furthermore, Nasheed urged President Mohamed Muizzu to reconsider discussions related to the Dornier flight and helicopters, citing their crucial role in medical evacuation. He called for a cessation of talks on expelling Indian military personnel, emphasizing the necessity of these resources in addressing medical emergencies on distant islands lacking advanced healthcare facilities.

The diplomatic strain arose after derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi were posted by three deputy ministers of the Maldives during his visit to Lakshadweep. President Muizzu, seen as pro-China, set a deadline for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel, leading to a heightened diplomatic standoff.

As India and Maldives navigate this delicate diplomatic situation, the plea from Nasheed for continued collaboration and understanding underscores the importance of preserving strong bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.
