New Delhi: The delta variant of the corona virus is the main variant of this virus that is most widely circulated worldwide. It is surpassing alpha, beta and gamma variants in terms of spread and infection. This was stated by World Health Organization (WHO) technical lead Maria van Kerkhove at an event on Wednesday.

Delta Variant:

She added that the Delta variant has changed over time and has become more contagious. Currently, it is actively surpassing all variants of the corona virus in terms of spread. "Currently less than one percent of the alpha, beta and gamma variants are circulating," Kerkhove said in a social media briefing. In fact, the delta variant is the predominant circulation around the world.

She said that it has become more powerful, it is more contagious and it is taking the place of the rest of the variants. It is noteworthy that WHO has lowered the alpha, beta, gamma along with eta, iota and kappa variants. This means that these variants no longer pose a serious threat to global public health.
