Quebec City: At least five were killed and several others were injured after gunmen opened fire at the people who were present at the Quebec city mosque in Canada for the evening prayer on Sunday.

According to the witness three gunmen opened fire at around 40 people who were there for evening prayer.

The police posted a tweet and confirmed the attack. The tweet reads, "There are many victims ... there are deaths. The suspects had been arrested."Police in another tweet posted, "The situation is under control."

The Mosque president Mohamed Yangui was shocked about the incident. He said, "Why is this happening here. This is barbaric."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his grief and posted, "Tonight, Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on a mosque in Quebec City. My thoughts are with victims & their families."

  • The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. Many of the injured are said to be in critical conditions.
  • The army officers were immediately deployed to the incident scene.
  • The investigation is underway.
