Britain, which is facing shortage of doctors, is once again going to consider recruiting 2000 doctors from India on fast-track basis to meet the shortage of well-informed doctors in the country. The first batch of these doctors will be deployed in hospitals in Britain after completing 6 to 12 months of post-graduate training. It is worth noting that after completing the training, these doctors will not have to pass the Professionals and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) examination to get a job in Britain. It is being told that this project will be funded directly by the British Government.

It is believed that this step has been taken by the government directly on the appeal of the hospitals of Britain's famous health service NHS (National Health Service). The doctors recruited in this will not get permanent jobs, but the experience gained from this will be important for the doctors as well as the countries. At the same time, some people are also expressing concern about the brain drain of doctors from India.

According to experts, recruitment of foreign trained doctors into the NHS is not new. 25 to 30 percent foreign trained doctors have been used in this service. According to Oxford University's Migration Observatory, an unexpectedly large number of foreign healthcare workers have come to Britain in 2022-23, with the highest number of doctors coming from India at 20 percent. The number of people coming from India in the nursing staff was 46 percent. After this come health workers from Nigeria, Pakistan and Philippines. According to the data, the number of Indians who obtained the Certificate of Sponsorship in 2022 was the highest at 33 percent. After this, there were workers from Zimbabwe and Nigeria in this case.

Under this program, NHS has opened training centers in many major hospitals of India. These training centers have been built in major cities of India like Mumbai, Delhi, Nagpur, Gurugram, Bangalore, Chennai, Indore and Mysore.

According to doctors working in Britain, providing post-graduate level training to doctors in India by the NHS is an important step. This kind of cooperation between the two countries in healthcare is a new step and sets new standards of cooperation in healthcare. This will increase cooperation between the two countries. Also, such efforts will increase the level of healthcare in the world.

Statistics show that recruitment of non-Europeans in Britain has increased since 2017. The number of vacant posts in the healthcare sector had reached 217000 between July and September. After which last year 57700 workers were given skilled worker visas. According to an estimate, about 30 thousand doctors from India are currently serving in the prestigious NHS of Britain.
