One may have heard of books taken from the libraries being returned after months but a book was returned to a library in New York 90 years after being lent out.

According to the reports, a copy of Joseph Conrad's 1925 book 'Youth and Two Other Stories' had been issued from the Larchmont Public Library in 1933. Nearly 90 years later, Virginia's Joanie Morgan contacted the library in July after finding the book.

The woman told that she found this among her stepfather's belongings. The most surprising thing is that the library collected only $5 as late fee.

Even the librarian got confused when the call came for the book.

It was probably the longest check-out since the Larchmont Library opened in 1926, The Post reports. Caroline Cunningham said that the person who took the book lived in the village at the time. “It was certainly quite a surprise for us,” said the librarian. Describing the call he had with the woman who returned the book, he said, 'At first I thought, are you calling the right library because we actually get a lot of phone calls from Virginia because there's a Larchmont library in Virginia. Is'.

Jimmy Ellis, who had the book issued, lived in the village with his first wife and two children, and died in 1978. According to letters from his stepdaughter, their home was about two blocks from the Larchmont Public Library, and since Jimmy was a writer and avid reader, he undoubtedly encouraged his boys to read, so they visited the Larchmont Public Library on a regular basis and used to borrow books from there.

At least the book was returned to the library and now the others may also be able to read it. It is far better than not returning the books at all.
