26 dead, 70 injured in explosion at fireworks market in Mexico

Mexico: At least 26 people have lost their lives while 70 others sustained injuries in an explosion at fireworks market outside Mexico city on Wednesday. A huge cloud of charcoal-gray smoke was filled with air into the sky.

“All of a sudden it started booming. I and the others surrounding me all took off running,” said 41-year-old Mexico City resident.

Some houses, which were near the market, also destroyed. People are asked not to come within 5 kilometres. Fire fighting operations are on.

“My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident and my wishes for a quick recovery for the injured,” said President Enrique Pena Nieto on Twitter.
