300 Israelis dead as Hamas-IDF clashes continue
According to the reports the Israeli defense forces (IDF) were engaged in a massive build-up of forces Saturday night, calling up large numbers of reservists and preparing for war.
As many as 300 Israeli soldiers and civilians were killed and more than 1500 injured in Saturday’s surprise Hamas attacks even as Israeli jets pounded Hamas positions in Gaza killing around 200 people as tension escalated in the region.
According to the reports the Israeli defense forces (IDF) were engaged in a massive build-up of forces Saturday night, calling up large numbers of reservists and preparing for war.
Hamas gunmen had infiltrated as many as 22 locations in southern Israel, including towns and other communities as far as 15 miles (24 kilometers) from the Gaza border. In some places, they roamed for hours, gunning down civilians and soldiers as Israel’s military scrambled to muster a response. Gun battles continued well after nightfall, and terrorists held hostages in standoffs in at least two towns.
The war continues between Israel and Hamas. Israeli Army spokesman Richard Hecht said that fighting is still going on in 22 places in the country. According to reports, more than 230 Palestinians have died so far, while more than 1700 people are injured.
At the same time, so far 300 Israelis have died and 1,590 have been injured due to the 5,000 rockets fired by Hamas on October 7. In response to Hamas attacks, Israel has claimed to attack 17 military compounds and 4 military headquarters in the Gaza Strip.
Amidst the worsening situation in Israel, the Indian Embassy has issued an advisory for its citizens present there. They have been asked to remain alert and safe. Also, flights to and from Israel to India have been stopped. Prime Minister Modi has said that India is with the people of Israel in difficult times.
27 pilgrims from Meghalaya and 7 from Nepal are stranded in Israel.
Saudi Arabia has appealed to Israel and Palestine to stop attacks.
The Israeli army is preparing to launch ground attacks in Gaza. Till now air strikes are being carried out.
Hamas claimed on October 7 that they had taken several Israelis hostage. According to reports, these hostages have been rescued.
