At least 25 killed, 100 injured in Bangladesh factory explosion

Dhaka: At least 25 persons were killed and 100 others injured when a boiler exploded at a factory near the Bangladeshi capital on Saturday morning, police officials said.

“A fire broke out following the explosion while the employees were working inside the four-storey factory in Gazipur district of Dhaka division,” said local police chief Harunur Rashid.

The government has announced an ex gratia of Bangladeshi Taka 200,000 and 100,000 to each of the bereaved family and injured worker, respectively.

Other highlights:

  • The death toll is expected to rise as the rescue operation is underway.
  • A large score of firemen were deployed at the factory in the wake of the incident.
  • Injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital by the rescuers.
  • The cause of the explosion could not be known yet.
