Twenty four people were killed and several others injured while hundreds of houses collapsed in Monday’s massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude in Japan.

According to the media reports, 155 aftershocks were felt in Japan in the day. According to the United Zoological Survey, this earthquake occurred on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture at around 4:10 pm local time.

The earthquake was felt at a depth of 10 kilometers. As soon as the earth shook in Japan, buildings collapsed, fires broke out and tsunami warnings were issued as far as eastern Russia, while people living in coastal areas of Japan were ordered to evacuate.

A massive fire broke out in the central Japanese city of Wajima after earthquake tremors were felt on Monday evening, in which more than 100 shops and houses were burnt to ashes, this information was given by NHK World. There was an explosion and a burning smell at the Shika Nuclear Power Facility in Ishikawa Prefecture, according to the Nuclear Regulation Authority. The operator claimed a transformer failed, but two nuclear reactors continued to operate under backup mechanisms. Major mobile phone providers in Japan claim that their services are being disrupted in earthquake-affected areas.

Japan's Prime Minister's Office ordered officials to coordinate with local governments and act under the principle of giving priority to human life. The government said, "No stone will be left unturned in emergency disaster responses, including saving lives and rescuing disaster victims, the government is working in solidarity." In view of the danger of tsunami, the Indian Embassy in Japan has set up an emergency room and issued helpline numbers.

In a statement shared on Twitter, the Indian Embassy in Japan said, "The Embassy has set up an emergency control room for anyone to contact regarding the earthquake and tsunami that occurred on January 1, 2024. These numbers and "Can be contacted on email ID."
