Notification for civic polls in UP to be issued early next month
Gorakhpur: The notification for the civic polls will be issued in the first week of next month and Electronic Voting Machine will be used in these elections in Uttar Pradesh, doubts raised over them by Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and some others notwithstanding.
State Election Commissioner S K Agrawal who made this announcement here on Friday reassured these leaders and voters that these machines were tamper-proof and that all doubt over them were "unfounded".
His reply was in the negative to a question whether Voters Verified Paper Audit Trail or VVPAT machines would be used in these polls.
The commissioner, however,told waiting newsmen that in Panchayat elections the old method would be used and ballot papers provided to voters to give their preferences.
Agrawal had come here to review the arrangements made for peaceful and fair civic elections in administrative divisions like Gorakhpur and Basti. He appeared satisfied with the preparations.
Before these polls a special drive will be launched in the state to nab criminal elements and seize illegal arms and ammunition.
