Bismillah Khan’s stolen shehnai recovered; grandson, jewelers held

Varanasi: In a shocking incident, the grandson of Late Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on the charge of theft of his five shehnais, few of them were of silver.

The STF arrested Ustad’s grandson Nazre Aalam, who had stolen the shehnais and sold off to a jeweller. Two jewelers, Shanker Seth and his son Sujeet Seth, were arrested as who were the ones to purchase the stolen shehnais and got silver material melted.

It may be recalled, five shehnais were stolen from Bismillah’s Varanasi residence on December 5. The family had said that they had recently shifted to Dalmandi area and the theft happened when they were visiting their ancestral place in Sarai Harha.
