UP Govt assures HC to provide seating benches in schools

Allahabad: The state government through its basic education department has apprised the High Court that about 4,000 lakhs will be incurred to provide seating benches to the children studying in primary and upper primary schools in the state.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and justice Yashwant Varma was given this information during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Krishna Prakash Tripathi, wherein a complaint has been made that the children studying in primary schools of state are deprived from basic infrastructure and facilities, which is unconstitutional.

Earlier, it was pointed out by the state government council that the education department is providing basic amenities to the children at Primary school level but the court was not satisfied with the stand of the state and said that there is still no proper sitting facility for the children in many primary schools of the state and they are forced to sit on jute rugs.

Today, Chief Standing Counsel, Ramesh Upadhyay requested the bench that to meet out the expenses several formalities from finance department is required and also the state cabinet will take the ultimate decision in this matter. The request was that hearing of this PIL may be deferred so that in the mean time substantial amount could be obtained for providing benches in the primary schools.
