UP Government has released the compensation amount of Rs 78 crore for crop damage to farmers

Lucknow, The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday approved a special relief package of over Rs 77.88 crores to compensate the farmers affected by heavy rain and floods in the 35 districts of the state, who suffered crop losses in the financial year 2021-22. This will benefit around 2.35 lakh farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The government has announced a relief package after assessing crop losses.

In a high-level meeting on Friday, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the crop compensation assessment. Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Manoj Kumar Singh informed the Chief Minister that the assessment of the damage caused to agricultural crops due to floods and heavy rains is in the process In 35 districts, 2,35,122 farmers have been identified whose agricultural produce has been damaged due to floods or heavy rains.

These 35 districts include- Deoria, Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Sitapur, Kushi Nagar, Ballia, Bahraich, Mau, Varanasi, Jhansi, Ghazipur, Barabanki, Jalaun, Kheri, Lalitpur, Chandauli, Kaushambi, Ambedkarnagar, Bijnaur, Basti, Gonda, Chitrakoot, Balrampur, Banda, Auraiya, Farrukhabad, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Kanpur Dehat, Bhadohi, Sultanpur, Agra, and Shravasti.

Earlier, the Chief Minister in the state had directed the officials to give prompt relief to farmers affected by rains and floods. The government has made it clear that a total of Rs 77,88,96,748 crore is being disbursed to flood and rain-affected farmers.

Maximum 37,848 affected farmers are from Deoria district, while the least damage has been done in Shravasti district. The CM said that not a single eligible farmer should be deprived of compensation. Everyone should be compensated as soon as possible.

The farmers' crops here have been badly damaged due to torrential rains and heavy floods in September and early October. The compensation amount will be directly transferred to the bank account (DBT) of farmers from the district treasury. In wake of the natural calamities, the state government is providing financial assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF).

The CM had directed the officials to give compensation to those farmers whose crops has been damaged during the heavy rainfall between October 17 and October 19 by conducting a survey. Following the instructions of the CM, the Revenue Department has issued an order to assess the damage of crops in a continual manner.
