Chitrakoot: A major train mishap in Uttar Pradesh was averted when engine of few coaches of Mumbai-Ratnagiri express train were separated and the divided train ran before it could be detected.

The incident took place near Manik railways station in Chitrakoot district at about 0400 hours on Saturday when couplings between the two coaches were broken leaving train divided into two parts, the Government Railway Police (GRP) sources said.

The engine and few coaches travelled few kms before it was stopped. The train could depart for destination after few hours.

It was yet to be ascertained if it was just an accident or a case of sabotage. The senior police and railways officials reached the spot and a probe was launched, sources added.
