Sambhal: Truck driver tries to kill BSP candidate, injures supporters

Sambhal: In a shocking incident, a truck driver deliberately tried to ram through former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) minister Aqeel Ur Rehman Khan here on Sunday.

The alleged attempt to kill the BSP leader was made near Muzaffarpur region where he was holding a public meeting.

Two of his supporters, who successfully tried to save him from the speeding truck, got severely injured and have now been admitted to the hospital.

It may be mentioned here that Aqeel Ur Rehman Khan is the BSP candidate from Asmoli constituency here.

According to the eyewitnesses, the truck driver was returning from Bisauli after unloading cement when he tried to run the truck through the former minster.

"Aqeel Ur Rehman Khan's supporters were carrying him on their shoulders at the time when the truck tried to crush him. After understanding the intentions of the driver, his supporters threw him aside and saved his life, while the two of them got badly injured," added the witness.

The injured supporters were immediately rushed to a private hospital, but their condition is still said to be critical. The supporters, however, succeeded in catching the truck driver.

In his statement to the police, Aqeel Ur Rehman Khan said, "This is a conspiracy of my opponents to kill me."

The truck driver is the resident of Deepasaray locality of Sambhal district.
