Poll Conduct violated, books favouring BSP distributed in Jalalabad

Shahjahanpur: A case of violation of Model Code of Conduct came into light in Jalalabad constituency here on Sunday, as religious books were distributed appealing people to vote for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Neeraj Maurya.

The religious book says Muslims have been cheated by all the political parties, including Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It further claims that none of the parties have taken any steps for betterment of Muslims.

"So, we appeal you all to vote Neeraj Maurya (BSP candidate) to power in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017," the 'blue-colour' book further states. A case has been registered into the matter.

What SDM SP Singh has to say about the case?

  • I have taken the case of distribution of objectionable books in cognizance.
  • The book has provocative content.
  • The book has not mentioned the name of its publisher.
  • The book has 'Courtesy - Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare Forum' printed on it.
  • An FIR has been registered against the forum.

Shahjahanpur is scheduled to go to polls in second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on February 15.
