PVVNL becomes first discom of the country to go cashless

Meerut: Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) with its headquarters in Meerut of Uttar Pradesh has become the first discom of the country to go cashless facilitating its consumers to make online payment without additional charge.

An agreement with HDFC bank was formalised in Meerut for the purpose under which as many as 600 swipe machines will be distributed and installed at five zonal headquarters in Meerut, Moradabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and Saharanpur. By April, the number of devices will be increased to 1600.

Abhishek Prakash, the managing director of PVVNL told www.newstrack.com that about 26 lakh power consumers of 14 districts of western Uttar Pradesh will be benefited from this facility which is claimed to be the first of its kind in any power distribution company of the country. In the first phase, the swipe machines are being provided at the HQs but by next month, the door to door collection of bill money through these machines will be initiated.

It may be recalled that PVVNL has performed creditably in revenue collection during the last financial year and received accolades for that.
