Yoga Guru proposal: Akhilesh does what Modi could not

Lucknow: Encashing Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's disillusionment with Modi government at the Centre, the Akhilesh Yadav-led government in Uttar Pradesh has given green signal to his proposal for the constitution of Vedic Education Board which the Centre had kept in the cold storage for two years.

The nod of Samajwadi Party government in UP for Ramdev's proposal is being seen as his recent proximity to Akhilesh Yadav and his disenchantment with the Modi, considered close to Yoga guru.

Why Baba Ramdev is unhappy with Narendra Modi:

  • Ramdev had joined the Modi bandwagon after Congress was after him.
  • He had proposed setting up of Vedic Education Board much on the lines of Madarsa Board.
  • The proposal did not receive attention as he desired it to be. A disgruntled ramdev approached Akhilesh Yadav for the same to which he agreed.

What was the proposal:

  • As per the initial proposal submitted to Modi, the Acharya Gurukul class 10th and 12th schools were to be recognised under Vedic Education Board'
  • Since it was in the concurrent list , Akhiles agreed to open up Patanjali Acharya Gurukulum schools in the state for vedic education.
  • The UP secondary education board is in the process of recognizing the Gurukulum at par with high school and intermediate.

What UP gained:

  • The agreement between UP government and Baba Ramdev will benefit the state in the longer run.
  • Ramdev plans to open 'Gaushalas' in Bundelkhand which in turn will change the economy of this drought-hit region.
  • He also envisages large scale cultivation of medicinal plants like Aloe Vera in Bundlekhand region.
