Lucknow: Following footsteps of the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will also stay overnight at a village of Mahoba district in drought effected Bundelkhand region.

The UP CM is scheduled to interact with the villagers and will try to understand their problems ahead of 2017 assembly polls in the state.

Akhilesh adopts Rahul’s strategy:

  • Rahul Gandhi often had food at huts of peasants in his parliamentary constituency, i.e. Amethi.
  • Besides, Rahul Gandhi had also been visiting villages of the Buldelkhand region.
  • Recently, the Congress vice president visited Bundelkhand and accused Akhilesh Yadav as well as Modi led Central Government of neglecting the region.

Why Akhilesh chose Bundelkhand:

  • A confidential intelligence report had predicted the ruling party might be relegated to third position in 2017 assembly polls with BSP leading the pack as single largest party.
  • It also spoke of possible loss to the SP if Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) would ally with any other party like BJP or BSP.
  • Reacting on the report, CM Akhilesh Yadav said that the recent survey based on intelligence report projecting the ruling Samajwadi Party as a laggard in coming assembly elections, was a wakeup call for the party.
